We are too old now, but you made us feel like we walked the “Way” with you.
    Thank you!!

    • Thank you, Phil and Erica. Our goal was to make people want to go, or feel like they went with us, so it’s nice to know we hit the mark!

I loved the Herriot Way show and am planning the walk with my sister and friend. I do have questions and am hoping you and Lorena might answer them, thank you. Did you backpack the full 4 days and not use the “luggage transport”which I have read about, and if so what did you need to pack? I am concerned about the availability of water and restrooms along the way, could you inform me about these as well. If you did use the ” luggage transfer ” between your places of stay, what was your experience like?
Thank you both for taking the time to assist me. I am really excited about this adventure!

    • Hi, Kathleen. We’re so happy you enjoyed the show. We used a baggage service called Sherpa Van to carry our luggage from village to village during the walk. While many people choose to carry everything with them in a backpack, we have found these baggage services to be indispensable. We couldn’t have done our Herriot Way walk without them, since our packs were full of documentary production gear. With no room for much else, everything else stayed in our bag that Sherpa Van carried for us. Whichever option you choose will depend entirely on whether you are able to carry everything with you.
As for water, please take with you enough water for a day’s walk. Lorena and I used water bladders in our packs, which can hold a lot, though many folks simply use bottles. As for restrooms, the routes over Shunner, mining country, and Harkerside are wild, so prepare for relieving yourself in the great outdoors! Other parts of the walk have restrooms more or less in the middle, such as Askrigg and—if you take the low Swaledale route—Gunnerside. After Harkerside, there’s a loo in Dent’s Houses (if unlocked) and Bolton Castle. And if you haven’t already, buy Stuart Greig’s book. Lots of great advice there.
We’re very excited for you, and we wish you the best of luck on the journey!

  3. I am so pleased your fabulous show has been well received. I watched it again this evening. To have played a small part in your project and become friends with you and Lorena has been an honour. Priscilla and I can’t wait to see you both when you venture here again. It has been busy for us, but we are well overdue for a catch-up to see how you are doing. Keep safe, and we will speak to you very soon.
